The week in Review.

Let's see....where to begin....

On Monday I worked all day.  I was at Bruce Trail PS in a lovely kindergarten class.  Drew was in school and Hunter and James played at home.  I met James and the boys after-school at the Georgetown early years centre.  There is a french program there every monday night, so we like to head there after school.  Drew isn't always interested in going to the french program, as it's more school, so sometimes we just ride the bikes in the big gym area.  We picked up pizza and breadsticks and headed up to Nana and Papa's for dinner.

Tuesday afternoon found us at Kelly's house hunting for eggs all over their property.  We were meeting right at the tail end of Hunter's nap, so rather than waking him, I left him and James at home and had a date with my biggest monkey.  We both had a blast.  We spent an hour hunting for eggs (they have a really big property and the eggs were hidden all over!) and then about another hour playing in their basement with all of our friends.

I had a doctor's appointment Tuesday night to discuss the results of my CT scan.  It turns out that my ureter is dilated (which I knew from my ultrasound) but my kidneys are enlarged too.  There are no blockages or anything that appears to be causing this, so I'm being sent off to a specialist.  Nothing serious, just more tests to be done.  Fun times.

Wednesday found me in Drew's classroom, volunteering for the morning.  I zipped home after this to pick Hunter up and head to our Easter playdate at Rocchina's house.  She had planned an elaborate time for us to decorate eggs, read stories, and just plain have fun together.  It was different on this day.  Hunter is a little more hands on than Drew is.  He is more likely to fall down stairs or eat something he shouldn't, so not quite the relaxing playgroup I had the day before, but fun nonetheless!

Hunter fell asleep on my way home, so James loaded the van up with the carpet he had pulled out of the upstairs bedroom and off we went to the dump.  Hunter woke up on our way back, so we stopped for lunch and then a quick haircut for Hunter.

We headed up to the Glen to be there when Drew got home from school and then stayed for a yummy roast beef supper.

Thursday I worked again, so James took the boys to Skedaddles.  We were planning on hitting Chuck E Cheese for dinner, but Drew fell asleep on the couch and then woke up with a fever, so Hunter and I headed to Wal-Mart instead.  I needed to get a few last minute Easter things.  Man, do I ever wish I had stayed home.  The place was a zoo and Hunter did not want to be shopping (it was close to his bedtime).  Ah well, it had to be done.

Friday was a rainy, cold and miserable day.  Drew wasn't feeling very well still, so we just layed low. Drew and I dyed eggs while Hunter napped.  Drew was fascinated with mixing the colours....he kept saying, "I wonder what colour it will be next???"  This went on for quite a long time!!  Who knew eggs could be so much fun!?!?

Once Hunter woke up, we headed to Nana and Papa's for the evening.  My brother came home on this day, but we didn't get to see him.  He went to a dinner party with some friends.

Saturday I took the boys to Milton for the Easter parade.  We brought baskets and went around to various downtown businesses to collect treats.  We met up with Rocchina and Reina, and had so much fun.  Hunter kept stealing chocolate out of his basket, so was a mess every time I turned around.  It turned out to be quite a warm day, so it was really fun to walk around downtown.  After this, I had promised Drew we could go to Indigo to choose something to buy with the money that Aunt Fran had sent him (and Hunter) for Easter.  He chose a Lego set, which once I bought, I realized it was for kids 7 and up.  I ended up putting it together.....it was hard!  After a treat at Starbucks, we headed to the Glen where we hung out with Nana and Papa and Uncle Jamie!!!  Drew was convinced that Uncle Jamie wouldn't remember him.  Poor little man.  Uncle Jamie took Drew on the 4-wheeler out to the back, Drew was thrilled!!  The hung out most of the evening.  Hunter warmed up to him too.  God I wish he was moving back closer to home once he's done Police college.

Hunter went swimming a few times in this puddle.  His outfit was changed numerous times.

A great week!!

Blah

I can't say we had the greatest weekend.  James worked all weekend, so we didn't see him, it was rainy and snowy (WTF?!?) and I felt like crap most of the weekend.

We didn't do much.  Yesterday, we took a field trip to Walmart (woohoo) to get some groceries and to just get out of the house.  Things went smoothly there, both boys were great and we got back in time for H to have his nap.  We headed to Nana and Papa's for dinner(after H's nap)...had some yummy spaghetti for dinner (which H loved, Drew wouldn't touch) and came home for a smooth bedtime.

Nana had an Easter craft for the boys to paint.  H wasn't interested, but Drew was all over it!

Hunter was so excited about the spaghetti.  He can even slurp it now....so cute!
Today was the worst of the two days.  Last night, H was up from 1-3, and then Drew came down at 3, and slept with us for the rest of the night.

We didn't leave the house this morning, everyone was exhausted.  During H's nap, Drew and I just watched TV, which I guess makes me a bad parent, but I really couldn't muster anything else.  It was a struggle to keep my eyes open!

After nap, papa came over to pick up hay and then we headed up to their house for dinner.  The boys were both wonderful and it was another great visit.  Drew wore his pirate costume....under his sweater.  He told me he was being sneaky.  Hilarious.

My parents have an orphan calf right now.  It's mother died while giving birth, and so my dad is feeding the calf and we're all hoping for the best.  We took the boys out the other day to see the babies (there are a few of them, but only the one orphan).  Drew was asking where the baby's mom was, what happened to her, how did she get to heaven, etc, etc.  Neither my mom, or I really knew what to say, but I was thinking that we answered his questions pretty well.

Then this morning, Drew asks me, "mommy, do people disappear when they die, just like animals do??"  I can't even remember what I said to this.  James and I are going to have to sit down and really figure out how we want to approach this.  Such a hard subject.......ugh!

Do a good deed, it'll make the world a nicer place...promise.

Yesterday morning found us all shivering at Rotary Park.  It was Momstown's "early" earth day clean-up.  Since actual earth day falls on good friday, Momstown decided to hold it's event a week early.  There were only a couple families that showed up for this event, probably because of the weather.  It was FREEZING!   It was windy, and brutal outside!  Thank goodness for the sun at least.

We were outfitted with our gloves and garbage bags as soon as we got there, and then off we went...hunting for garbage.  We found some pretty nasty things near the baseball diamond.  I'm sure you can imagine...apparently it's the local teenager hangout.  I'd say that between the 3 families that were there, we did a pretty good job of cleaning up the area.  Drew really got into it, and was so excited whenever he found a piece of garbage.  They have been talking about littering at school, so this really hit home with him.  I was very glad to have James there with me.  He stuck with Drew, and that allowed me to take Hunter back to the playground when he started freaking out because of the wind.  Not sure how I would have handled that if I had been on my own.

Once the park was cleaned to the children's satisfaction, the kids had fun at the playground.  Rotary park is one of the few parks with sand under the playground.  We had brought our recycling box full of trucks, shovels, buckets and tractors for all to enjoy.  The kids had a blast, and a snack (courtesy of Momstown).  Once we were all frozen, James and I packed the boys into the van and headed over to the Ivy Arms for lunch.  It was delicious, but we were disappointed when we went to pay.  We had bought a WagJag certificate and tried to use it, only to find out that it wasn't applicable to the lunch specials (which we had ordered).  We were annoyed, but on the bright side, we will just have to go back again sometime!  I'm thinking a date night, perhaps??

After lunch, our next stop was the Woodbine centre to play at the Fantasy Fair.  It's an indoor amusement park and playground which we had bought a WagJag certificate for.  Thankfully, this certificate was accepted.  The boys had a blast, and we ended up staying there for the entire afternoon/evening....having dinner in the food court of the mall.  It was exhausting, I had a huge headache at the end of the night...but totally worth it.  Drew was talking about all the things he did today.   Love when that happens.

The boys were adorable.  Full of hugs for each other the whole time.

Drew and Hunter rode on the train in a seat by themselves (James and I were behind them).  They were so excited.  Drew had his arm around Hunter the whole time and was pointing things out to him.  So cute!

He was so mad at this ride.  The boat wouldn't go anywhere....I thought at one point, he was going to jump out and push it.

Cherry chip timbits!  So exciting, not an easy find.  We had to take this photo to send to Nana and Papa.

Hunter wanted to show his timbit too.

Tonka trucks at the dollar store?!?!  Hell yes!!!!

This Baskin Robbins must be a gold mine.  It is the bargaining tool that most parents use to get their kids out of the amusement park.  Constantly a line there.  The ice cream was super good though!  James and I each had one of their new mini-parfaits.  I had a Reese's peanut butter cup one....YUM!!!  Also, note how exhausted the boys are!
Another great day!!

If you go down to the woods today....

James was on day shift on this day.  He had training, and while I'm sure it wasn't a very exciting day for him, we were thrilled that we were going to spend the evening with him.  The boys and I spent the morning outside.  We began by playing in the sandbox, which quickly led to Drew and Hunter helping me in the garden.  Their job was to dig the weeds out...and stay away from the plants.  They mostly followed the instructions.

The day before, Drew had left his dump truck in our back garden, so our work moved there.  This garden is ridiculous, and needs some major overhauling in the next few weeks.  I've been told that there is going to be a sale in the rental department at Home depot starting May 1st, so we're going to wait until then.
This is what a garden looks like when you don't touch it for a season.  Pretty impressive that the crocus' and the tulips still came up.  Strong little flowers!

View to our north field.

My favourite tree to the right.
The boys decided they wanted to head out to the field....this led them wanting to head out to the bush.  I agreed, and on we trudged.  I should have known better.  A walk back to the bush takes a wee bit of energy, and I didn't bring any snacks, or drinks.

We made it to the creek, and the boys played there for a while.  Drew found the bridge, and inevitably fell into the creek.  Cold feet, hungry and tired boy do not make for the most pleasant walk home.  It was great to take them back there though.  The next time I will be better prepared, and then we will have a better walk home.  That place has special meaning to me.  As a kid, I spent a lot of time back there.  It was a magical place, where I could pretend I was anyone or anything.  My grandma took me (and then my brother too, when he was old enough) on hikes back there every spring.  We would hunt for leeks (so my grandma could make my papa soup) and my favourite flower (jack in the pulpit).  I always looked forward to those hikes, and couldn't help but think of my grandma as I took my boys back there.

Hunter throwing grass into the little creek.
Once we made it back to the house, we dried off, had lunch, Hunter had a nap and then we headed out to meet some friends at Springridge.  I bought a season's pass, so I'm sure we'll be back there a whole bunch this year.  The boys had a great time with their friends, I had a great time with my mommy friends and daddy surprised us by meeting us there after work.

On the way out, James told Drew to tell me that we were going to McDonald's for dinner, but that they would surprise me by going to East Side Mario's.  Drew turns to me and says, "mommy, we're going to East Side Mario's for dinner".  James says, "Drew you ruined the surprise!"  Drew says, "No daddy, we're going to surprise mommy and really go to McDonald's".

Surprise!

We went to McDonald's for dinner.  What a lovely surprise.  LOL

It was bedtime for the boys when we got home, James and I enjoyed a bottle of wine while watching our DVR'd survivor.

A great day/night for all of us.  LOVE when James is on day shift!!
