"Mommy, I don't like you"

Today was exhausting.

I was up most of the night with Hunter last night.  For whatever reason, he woke up at 1am screaming, and would not go back to sleep.  I tried everything.  We cuddled on the couch for most of the night, I spent a lot of the night trying to keep him from getting up off of the couch.  Poor little man.  Needs to SLEEP!!!

Once James woke up (I was a bitter bitch while he was sleeping....I feel guilty about it now...but wow, was I upset!).  It should be said that James "slept in" until 7:30.  Since when does 7:30 count as a sleep in....especially when you work until 10pm the night before?!?!  Apparently when you're married to me, that's when.

Anyways...what was I saying?  Right.  Once James woke up, I stormed into our bedroom to try and get some sleep....I might have told him what I was doing...I'm not sure.  I slept for about an hour, and woke up a different person.

The boys were wonderful this morning, and this afternoon for that matter.  James went out to feed the cows and check on everything in the barn (nightmare....the water was frozen.  He was out there forever, and ended up being late for work - not a happy camper when he left for work - dad came over later in the afternoon and spent a couple more hours on it and finally got it to work again).  While James was out there, Drew wanted to play with his moon sand.  We hadn't had it out in a while (because it makes a crazy mess), so we hauled it out.  The boys had a great time.  I was feeling bad about the fact that we hadn't been outside in a few days (because it's so f-ing cold) so I had the bright idea to bring some snow inside.  It would have been great, had we not already had the moon sand out.

Note to self - moon sand and snow do not mix well!  Huge mess.  The boys had a blast.  Mommy did not have so much fun cleaning it up!

Hunter had a great nap today, which gave Drew and I time to hang out and read some books, watch some TV and just play together.

Nana (and papa) came over in the early afternoon.  Papa headed out to the barn to work on the water, and the boys, Nana and myself headed to Scribble n' Splatter for an afternoon of valentine's crafts and cookie decorating.  There were a few other kids there, and both boys played very well with them and had a lot of fun.  I think the highlight for both boys was the cookie decorating.

I'm not sure what happened to Drew on the drive home from Scribble n' Splatter but dear lord.  I almost turned back to see if I had accidentally brought the wrong kid home.  He had asked to set up his electric train set after we got home.  I said yes, as long as he was a good listener.  On the way home, he was kicking my chair.  I told him to stop, gave him a million chances, he kept kicking my chair, each time a little harder.  Finally, I told him we were not getting the train set out.  This was like a switch going off.  He threw this huge tantrum.  Throwing stuff at me (while I'm driving), calling me names, yelling.  It was terrible.  It didn't end with the van ride either.  Once home, it continued.

I got some dinner into him, which seemed to help things a bit.

Until bed time, when there was a HUGE meltdown that he wanted his daddy.  It must be hard on him, having to go to bed without seeing James.  We skyped with daddy right before bed, which I think helped a little.  He fell asleep while I was reading him stories (Hunter went to bed with no problems tonight too!).

Fingers crossed for a good night and a better day tomorrow!

Where did the week go?

I taught at Pineview today.  Grade 2.  I've been in this class a few times, and LOVE them.  They are such a wonderful class, so well behaved.

James dropped the boys at Nana and Papa's on his way to work, and they spent the afternoon with Nana.  Once I arrived there, we hung out for a while, and then Drew and I headed to Streetsville Bowl for Drew's friend Nathan's (from Hornby Nursery school) 5th birthday party (Hunter stayed with my parents).

Drew had a blast.  He loved bowling.  It was 5-pin, so still pretty challenging, but not crazy hard for him.  We had pizza for dinner and a Thomas the train birthday cake.  Fun times!

Drew spilled apple juice all over his pants.  He HATES having wet pants, especially when it looks like he peed himself.  He wanted to go home right then.  Thank goodness there was a hand-dryer in the washroom.  It was quite funny at first, because I had him, upside down, with his bum towards the hot air...trying to dry his pants out.  He thought it was hilarious.

After about 5 minutes, I finally took his pants and underware off and just held them up to the air (much easier - duh).  He stood, half naked in the stall waiting to get his clothes back.  Oh the things that liven up the night, eh??

Here are some pics....

Other highlights from the week...

-Hunter and I went to East Side Mario's for lunch (kids eat free mondays).  He loved the soup.

Our new play doh game.  You get to squash other players.  Drew loves it.
-Drew got his hair cut (tuesday).

-Drew stayed home from school (wednesday) because he was sick.
-James picked up our new van (wednesday) - 2010 Grand Caravan SE.  We love it!
-The boys built a space-ship from the car-seat box.  It was a very involved 2-day process.  Copious amounts of tape was used.

Weekend Fun

James worked really late friday night (he got home around 4 am) so once the boys were up, fed and dressed we headed out to the gym.  My plan was to do the 9am class, but we didn't get there in time.  I ran on the treadmill for a bit and watched the class.  I was a bit nervous to do the class, so this actually calmed my nerves a bit to try it out next weekend (it's a cardio bootcamp class).  After my workout, I picked the boys up, grabbed a smoothy for the boys and we headed to the "Thomas book store" (Indigo).  The boys played, I ran into a friend I used to work with and once we had sufficiently  destroyed the store, we left to go pick daddy up to go for lunch.

There were a few vans advertised in the Georgetown paper for sale at Georgetown Chrysler.  We headed there first (as Hunter fell asleep in the van).  James went and test drove one, made them an offer, but they would not budge on the price.  He left our phone number and told them to call us when they changed their minds.  We headed to Pizza Hut for lunch and discussed whether we should call Chrysler back (I am not good at negotiating!).  We decided not to, and thought we'd give Milton Chyrsler a call.  Turns out they had the same vans for sale there, and the one we really wanted was available (with a dvd player).  James headed there, they were willing to negotiate a bit on the price, and we bought the van!  We go and pick it up on wednesday.  SOOOO excited!

James' parents came over to watch the boys that afternoon.  We went to see, "No strings attached".  I really liked the movie, we had a great time.  Our plan after that was to go get some dinner and then do a little shopping.  That plan was thwarted though, as there was a crazy snow storm outside!  We drove home right away and told James' parents to hit the road (the roads were getting really bad).

Sunday morning found James up bright and early cleaning the driveway and then we were on our way to swimming lessons.  Drew had a freak-out right before.  We were all on the deck, I was holding Hunter and we saw Drew's teacher.  We told him to go to her, as his class had started.  She did not notice him when he went over and walked right on by.  He came running back, crying, saying he didn't want to go to swimming.  I walked him over and stayed on deck throughout his entire lesson (usually I go out and sit with my parents).  This helped, and once he got to jump in, he had a great time.

Working on my back floats.

After swimming, we hit Timmys for the usual after swimming snack with Nana and Papa, then we headed home to get ready for our friend C's birthday party.  C had her party at Scribble n' Splatter an awesome kid's art studio located in Milton (I think she has an in with the owners ;) ).

The party was really fun, both boys had a blast.  Crafts, music, toys and dancing, who could ask for more???  Oh, and CAKE!!!!  Fun times!!!!!

Happy birthday C!!!

It was early to bed for them after all this activity, and not much sleep for anyone last night.  Hunter was up screaming, which kept Drew up, which kept James and I up.  This morning was nasty.  Drew did NOT want to go to school.  I sent James to drop him off, and he cried and cried.  James took him in to school and walked him right to the door.  Drew finally calmed down, and said to James, "I just want to wipe my tears away before I go in, daddy".  His teacher came and brought him in before he got a chance to wipe them away.  Once James told me this, I almost drove there and picked him up.  I did get an e-mail from his teacher telling me that the rest of his day went great.  We hung out at my parents all night tonight, and both boys were wonderful.

They are both asleep right now, crossing my fingers for a better night tonight.

Happy Friday!

Drew had school today for the first time in a week.  Monday was a PA day and Wednesday was a snow day.  He was not a happy camper this morning.  He did NOT want to go to school, huge meltdown before we left.

Hunter and I had a good day, we played for the morning and he had a pretty big nap, waking just in time to leave to pick brother up from school.

"K, seriously mom, enough with the pictures"

"Could I offer you some water?"

"Playing Thomas on mommy's phone"

Drew wasn't in much of a better mood when I picked him up.  Nana usually takes him on the bus in the afternoons, but today she was off to Niagara Falls, so Drew got to be picked up by me (apparently not a fun alternative).  I was racking my brain all day trying to figure out a fun place to take the boys once I had picked Drew up from school that would take his mind off of not seeing Nana and Papa on a school night.  Kelly thankfully e-mailed and suggested hitting skedaddles in the afternoon.  A plan was in place!

We had a slight detour on the way there, as Drew decided he had to go potty right away.  Surprisingly enough, there was a Tim Horton's nearby (they are everywhere in Milton) and we stopped there.  Obviously, some Timbits were consumed after the potty break.

Once at Skedaddle's, the boys had a great time.  Hunter even went down the two huge slides.  I freaked out a bit the first time he went down, but after I saw the smile on his face, I realized it was all good.  I had a great time as well.  I hadn't seem Kelly in quite some time, it was great to catch up and have some adult conversation.

After Skedaddle's, we headed to McDonald's....cause where else would we finish off our "super fun,  mommy is so great" night.

The above videos illustrate what I got to listen to on the way to McDonald's.  Now do you understand why I am insane??? LOL

Man, was that a mistake.  It was JAMMED.  The boys lasted 5 minutes in the play place, it was way too overwhelming for them.  We ordered dinner, ate, and then got out of there asap.  Thankfully, both boys made it home awake (Drew almost fell asleep, but my rendition of "twinkle, twinkle little poop" kept him awake and laughing.)

Bedtime went smoothly, both boys were exhausted, and now I'm going to go watch Grey's Anatomy (which I DVR'd on Thursday, what did I ever do before we got that thing?!?!)

Happy Friday!

Happy Birthday Papa!

Yesterday was my dad's birthday.  They came over for a bit in the afternoon and then we headed out to East Side Mario's for his birthday dinner.  The boys love it there and were both really well behaved (as well as could be expected, anyways).  I was a bit worried as to how things were going to pan out as H fell asleep on the way there and as I was carrying him into the restaurant, he was still asleep.  He woke up as soon as we walked in the doors, looked around and just settled into the evening...good mood and all!  Could have been ugly, very ugly!!!

Drew really wanted to get my dad underpants.  I have no idea why, or why this was so hilarious to him.  But he really wanted Papa to have blue and green, "fancy" underpants.  When dad opened them, Drew laughed hysterically.  Oh the minds of 4 year olds!  We also got Papa (and Nana) a  night in Niagara Falls at the four points Sheraton Fallsview.  It's attached to the casino.  As part of the package, they also get a gift certificate to the keg.  They are going tonight, hope they have a good time!

Opening the underpants.

Free Happy Birthday cake for Papa.

Happy birthday Dad, we love you!!!

Snow Day!!!

Today, Drew had his very first snow day.  He was very excited.  For some reason, he had it in his head that on a snow day, since Nana does not have to drive her bus, we would get to go to the Glen and hang out with Nana all day.  Man, there was a shit-storm when I told him we couldn't.  His solution to the whole, "roads are too bad to drive on" problem was that we could walk there.  Poor little man.  The consequences of him being so mad though were not pretty.  He was rude to me, mean to his brother and ended up back in his room for several time-outs and this was all before it was 8:30am!!!  I thought this day is going to be brutal....

It turned around though.  He calmed down, the boys found some things to do, and we settled into a flow for the day.

Drew put tape on the table so that he would have roads and bridges...we ended up with tape all over the room.

James is showing Drew a picture of a van that we found on the internet...he was pretty excited about it.

I think we may have played with every toy in the house today.

The little people crossing one of the bridges.
Things didn't go so smoothly for my poor husband.  He was woken up by Drew and I fighting (he worked late last night) and then had to deal with our water.  Our well was empty and needed filling up.  When he went to fill it up from the barn well (my dad had a well drilled for the barn, our house well is a very old dug well), the section where he attaches the hoses was frozen.  A few hours later, James finally had the hoses working and our well filling up.  Then he got the tractor out and cleaned our driveway...coming in a few times to warm up cause it was COLD outside!  Poor James.

Hunter loves this duck...it yells, "put me down" when you hold it by the ears.

I was doing the dishes and it got quite quiet...went looking for them and found them hiding under the dining room table eating suckers (apparently they found the Halloween stash!)
For lunch today, I made soup chicken.  It's something that we have quite often, but today I changed it up a little bit and really liked the results.  I combined cream of mushroom and cream of celery soups (with a bit of water/milk) and rice.  Poured them on the bottom of a baking dish, put the chicken on top and then sprinkled onion soup mix on the chicken.  The onion soup mix totally made a difference.  Soooo yummy!!!  Drew ate it for dinner and loved it cold.  Will definitely do this one again.

Once James headed to work, we suited up and went outside to play in the snow.

Drew building his roads with his dump-truck and Hunter waving to me from the window.

"I love the snow!!!"
The rest of the evening went pretty well.  Dinner, baths, and then bedtime stories.  Hunter had a pretty hard time going to sleep, it took a while for him to settle down.  Drew on the other hand, fell asleep as soon as I read him his last story.....I'm about ready to turn in too.  I'm working tomorrow, so things will be very scrambley in the morning.
